So, as we lurch to the end of the festival season, here’s my top 5 handy hints for survival. Yep, it’s a bit late in the day now, but if you’ve got your own to add now there’s only Bestival to go, please share. You may just save someone from trench foot.

1.) Listen to your mum: take wellies even if they do go out of fashion again (see pics in my Flickr photostream if more persuasion is needed. In 1997 wellington boots were probably the uncoolest thing on the planet and look what happened)

2.) If you crack and decide to head for the showers, remember that the one with the shortest queue is the communal nudist option

3.) Check your tent bag before you go. Are the poles in there? Sleeping in a tent with no poles isn’t much fun. Trust me.

4.) Don’t drink too much before heading to the main stage for a headline act: the dreaded loos are a LONG way off.

5.) Always bring a canoe. You might just need it (see Kit and Tom in this link to the NME – they made the front page of the Guardian as well, I seem to remember. Brilliant.) http://www.nme.com/photos/glastonbury-festival—classic-photos/175342/21/1

… well, Book Four has been safely delivered before the delivery of Baby Two. I am relieved I won’t have to finish a novel with a verrrry small sprog (8 weeks!) as I did with Spirit Hunter. My brain was so sleep-deprived it was like swimming through a big jar of syrup. Looks like I got away with it though – a nice review for Spirit Hunter in the Independent recently, hurrah!
