Author visits
I enjoy visiting schools to talk about writing, publishing in general, and Anglo-Saxon history (people love seeing my 1,000 year-old Anglo-Saxon brooch – please take a look at the Where do you get your ideas from? section for more information about this). Creative writing workshops can also be arranged.
To arrange a visit to your school, library or bookshop please get in touch via the “contact me” section of this website – I will reply to your message as promptly as I can. After the initial contact, is usually best to have a quick chat on the phone to arrange things.
For one-off visits, I charge the standard rates recommended by the Society of Authors – http://www.societyofauthors.org/rates-and-guidelines. For festivals and appearances at longer courses (Arvon Foundation, for example), I am of course very happy to accept the standard rate offered to all other authors!
“Katy’s visit was a really valuable experience for our pupils right through from Yr 5 to Yr 12. Assemblies and Q&A sessions were engaging for the larger groups, but what we were especially delighted with was the workshops she offered for our G&T pupils, who thrived under her professional guidance. An author’s direction of skilled creative writers’ work is something which we as English teachers cannot offer our pupils in the same way, and Katy’s approach allowed pupils’ confidence and skills both to grow. Highly recommended!”
